Making Tax Digital
Making Tax Digital for VAT is changing the way that accountants and bookkeepers produce and submit VAT Returns.
A business must register for VAT if their turnover is above £85,000. It is advisable to check turnover on a rolling 12-month basis to see if it exceeds the VAT threshold. If so, MTD applies from the first day of the following month.
From April 2022 Making Tax Digital applies to all VAT registered businesses, with a few exceptions. If turnover subsequently falls below the VAT threshold businesses must continue to follow the MTD rules.
Xero software is compatible with MTD, calculates VAT and files VAT Returns securely.
